"I have just been practicing my scales and arpeggios and also different songs like For My Fallen Angel or Lux Aeterna the theme to Requiem for a Dream." Kat replied, eating her ice cream and giggling at Reg who was trying to be a 'proper gentleman.'

Reg had braught along his pet cat Neelix, named after Voyagers Ambassidor Neelix.

But when he was startled at the door he forgotten he had left poor nelix outside in the pet carrier.

It started to rain and all everyone could hear was a high pitched meow comming from the front door.

Reg was laughing with Kat, but Dianna's attention was taken away from the conversation listening outward.

"Reg is that Neelix I can hear?"

"Oh no I completely forgotten" replies Reg running for the door.

He opens the door and brings Neelix inside and opens the carrier so neelix can run around.
Poor neelix is soaked through, everyone is giggling at Reg and neelix, but Reg is busy cuddling Neelix and appologising.

Reg goes to replicate some food for neelix that commander data had given him that his cat spot likes alot.

Strange co-incidence because at that moment who should appear at the door but Data him self.

"Good evenign people" says Data

"Ah Mr Data, I mean Commander, Sir, please please come in how are you" stutters Reg.
"Now here is a a a guy who knows his music, kat this is Data" again stutters Reg introducing them.

"Nice to meet you Data" says Kat
"Its a pleasure seeing you again Kat, I loved your piece at the last music festival at HQ" replied Data

"I see the two of you have already met" says Reg

"Yes" interupts Dianna "Kat and her group were on stage just before Data and his group of musicians, you were there Reg dont you remember" she adds

"Im, Im, I cant rememeber I was so busy trying not to let stage fright take over me I guess I was walking around blind folded"

Everyone giggled including Data, his emotion chip was working properly now so he could enjoy the full range of emotions, which meant he finally understood humour.

But what everyone else was laughing at is that Data was standing behind Reg copying him and making fun of him stuttering.

Everytime Reg turned around Data would stop as if nothing was happening and then continue when Reg turned away.

It was funny to see Data poking fun at Reg, though not funny for Reg who seemed oblivious. Katty grinned and acted as if nothing was happening. She picked up Neelix and snuggled him close, petting him. Neelix purred in her arms. He was quite comfortable in her arms at the moment. She wondered when Mommy would get home from work.

At almost the same moment the home coms system became active.

Dianna went to the console and seen it was the Admiral

"Hi Admiral how are you" asked Dianna trying to stop laughing.

"Im good thank you, a little tired, it looks like your having alot of fun." replied Janeway

"Data is making fun of Reg and we're trying not to laugh" she explains

from the other side of the room reg shouts "Hey I heard that" and laughs him self looking at Data Throwing chocolate ice-cream at him from the spoon.

Neelix jumps off Kats knee and starts to lick the chocolate ice-cream off Data's shirt.

"Would you like to stay for dinner all of you?" asks the admiral
"That would be fantastic" replies Dianna "But I think someone filled up on ice cream"

"Oh my" laughs Janeway "Well I shouldnt be too long now, I'm almost done, have you told Kat about the recital next week?"

"No we havent gotten around to that yet but Im sure she will be happy to do it" says Dianna "Do you want to speak to Kat?" asks Dianna

"Send her my love and tell her I will be home within the hour, just a few loose ends to tie up" replies Janeway

"Ok will do Admiral, safe journey hurry home you're missing all the fun"

The viewscreen turns off and Dianna re-joins the group, they are setting up stands and instruments.

"Come on now we have to practice, all this fun is good but its not what we should be doing" says Data. "Plus I've been wanting to practice that piece with you that you performed at the festival remember" he says looking at Kat.

"Was that mommy?" says Kat looking at Dianna
"Yes she said she will be home in the hour and to send her love. It looks like we will all be staying for dinner and there is a surprise we would all like to talk to you about" says Dianna

Reg and Data know what it is and look around the room whistling pretending they dont.

"My my what a loverly day it is outside" says Data trying to distract the attention.

Everyone laughs as they look out the windows to see rain pouring down.

Katty nodded. "I remember." She said grinning. She took out her Stradivarius violin and the sheet music and returned to where Reg, Deanna, Data and Neelix the cat were sitting. "A surprise?" She asked, getting excited. She smiled at Deanna.

Admiral Janeway arrives home and joins everyone for dinner.
To her surprise Kat & Deanna had dinner all ready set out.

"Thankyou both that saved me alot of work, but I invited you for dinner I didnt expect you to make it" says Admiral Janeway

"Its no trouble at all admiral" replies Deanna
"I wanted to mommy I know you have been working hard today" said Kat.

After a rather filling and funny dinner, swapping stories and jokes, Admiral Janeway can see kat fidgiting excitedly at the other end of the table, so she looks at Kat, quite sternly, so not to give away what she is about to say and says in a deep tone "Kat!"

"Yes mommy?" replies Kat now sitting still wondering what she may have done wrong, the Admirals plan worked she was too distracted to read the admirals mind.

"Did Deanna mention our speaking this afternoon?" asked Janeway

"Yes she did mommy......why" replis Kat after a long pause still wondering if she is in trouble.

"And what did she say to you, because I know what she told me" says the admiral still looking down at Kat intently.

"Nothing mommy she just told me you were busy, would be home soon and that you love me" said Kat now really worrying

"And she didnt say anything else to you at all" said Janeway almost cracking a smile.

But it was too late before Kat could reply Deanna was already giggling too much.

Kat was still puzzled but started to laugh a little also, curiously asking "should there have been something else"

"You mean Deanna didnt tell you about a little surprise" says Janeway this time unable to control the laugh that followed, giving Kat a huge hug.

"Ooooh yes mommy, but she didnt say what she said I had to wait for you to come home first, mommy I was worried I thought I was in trouble and didnt know why" says kat now laughing also.

"Sorry Katty, well I'll let Deanna, Data & Reg tell you about it, its a little something they have organised......Deanna!" she says turning to look at the councillor.

"Well Kat, remember the performance you gave last year just before Commander Data at the ambassidors party" asks Dianna

"Yes I do Deanna, I was quite nervous" replied Kat

"Not as nervous as me" interupted Reg

Kat laughed.

"Well the ambassidor liked it so much he wants a repeat performance, but he would like to see you all perform together in data & reg's group and then a couple of solo pieces which you like the best" explains Deanna

Reg cant keep his excitement under control and shouts out "Were going to be on stage woohoo"
but no sooner had he shouted it he realised what he had said.
2oh no, oh my word we,ahhh, we're going, going to be, oh boy, not again.... what, what if i mess up or get it wrong, i mean the ambassidor...."

"Calm down Reg you'll be fine" says Deanna trying to calm him down
which doesnt work because Data then says

"we only have 9 days to practice the performance is next saturday evening"

"Data shhh" says Deanna "ok yes you dont have a lot of time but you'll be fine, plus if you fail Reg we always have Kat here to take up the slack, you can mime" says Deanna laughing at Reg who is now biting hit nails and pacing the floor.

Admiral Janeway walks back into the room and says
"So Kat what do you think, would you like to do it?"

Everyone looks at Kat waiting her reply.

"Yes please, Mommy. Oh and can I play the full theme to Requiem For a Dream for the Ambassador? But I will need some extra violin players to back me." Said Kat. She was excited about performing for the Ambassador with Reg, Data and Deanna. She looked intently up at her mother with vivid blue eyes. "I really want to impress him."

Several days have passed and its now the evening of the Recital Admiral Janeway is so looking forward to it as she suspects is Kat, Reg, Data & Deanna.

Final preperations are underway, all seating arrangements have been made, the caterers are setting up the buffet and Ambassador Freylon & company were due to arrive any moment.

"Kat darling" shouts Janeway
"Yes Mommy" replies Kat

"I have to go meet the ambassador and his wife and crew, You'll be ok with Deanna and everyone else wont you?" asks the Admiral

"I'll be fine but I'll admit Im very nervous, excited, a whole mix of emotions" giggles Kat whislt shaking a little

"We'll be fine Admiral we're just having a final practice before the show" chimes in Deanna "You go tend to the ambassador"

Deanna puts her arm round Kats shoulder and leads her off into the practice room just behind the stage area.

Data is calmly sat miming movements on his instrument, while Reg is a bumbling fool, sheet music flying everywhere, the music stand falling over and tripping over his own instrument falling to the floor he screams
"Just typical, see, see what I told you, Im going to ruin the whole thing, I shouldnt even be here"

"Reg calm down you'll be fine" shout Deanna & Kat
Kat & Deanna look at each other and Kat says "purely co-incidence I wasnt reading your mind I promise"
Deanna giggles and replies "everything is a co-incidence with Reg"
They walk to their instruments giggling to each other and get out their music sheets and sit down.

They talk among them selves for a while and then data says "come on people we must practice we only have an hour before show time"

Everyone is quiet and they begin to practice, with only an hour to practice though they simply cover intros to each part.
They are all going to perform a song together then each of them will be performing a solo piece.

When it was Kat's turn to play the solo piece, she had chosen "For My Fallen Angel" by the 21st century doom metal group, "My Dying Bride". She made sure that the violin parts had been taken out of the track and explained about it to the audience. When the song started, she played the violin flawlessly, playing each part with precision.

The music was so beautiful by everyone who performed.
But it was Kat who braught a tear to everyone's eye, playing so elegantly.

The Admiral asks Kat if she would mind staying with Deanna for a few days as she has to attend an important away mission.

Kat is unsure but with the temptation of chocolate ice cream the deal was sealed, with a hug and kiss ofcourse.

Deanna is instructed to meet the admiral at the new starbase, the admiral doesnt know how long she is going to be away exactly but Kat will know when the admiral is on the return journey.

Deanna also has some secret orders, all of which will be revealed when we rendevouz with Admiral Janeway at the starbase.
